September 14, 2009 Kanye West disses Taylor Swift (MTV awards 2009)

Leave it to Kanye West to produce one of the most infamous moments in VMAs history before the 2009 show was even an hour old. It happened after Taylor Swift’s victory in the Best Female Video category for “You Belong With Me,” which beat out Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” Just moments after Swift accepted the Moonman and began her acceptance speech, West stormed the stage, taking the microphone from Swift to announce Beyoncé deserved the award.

When Taylor Swift won the first award of the evening, Best Female Video for "You Belong With Me," even Pink seemed to beam at her from the audience.

Taylor: "I sing country music so thank you so much for giving me a chance to win a VMA award."

And then Kanye West got involved. Because no award show is complete without his (dissenting) opinion, Kanye stood up and basically trashed Taylor Swift.

He's happy for her and he's going to let her finish, he says magnanimously, "But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!"

The camera cut to Beyoncé, who just looked embarrassed. Is this like an Eminem/Bruno thing?
