September 14, 2009 The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards took place in Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, September 13, 2009.
Madonna opened the show talking about her experiences with Michael Jackson. After her speech, Janet Jackson paid tribute to her late brother by performing their duet, “Scream”. The show closed with a sneak preview of Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” movie.

Losing Best Female Video to Taylor Swift, Beyonce Knowles managed to walk home with a trophy for Video of the Year at the September 13 live ceremony of MTV Video Music Awards, thanks to her "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" music video. She won over Lady GaGa, Eminem, Kanye West and Britney Spears.
